If you read The Star newspaper and came across this article, it is writen by Eeleen.

“Our Youths Can Be Corrected?”
Youth today are a serious social problem. They are involved in loitering, drug abuse, lax sexual behavior and even crime. Parents, the education system, the mass media and society have been blamed for it. Youths are the nation’s most important resource, They are the future caretakers and leaders of the nation. Something must be done to save them.

Many say parents are to blame for the youths of today becoming a serious social problem. They say that parents are too involved in making money. Usually, to obtain as much money as possible, both parents work. So, they are not at home most of the time and their are neglected. The children have no parental love. They are not guided and controlled.

The result is they end up loitering in shopping centres and other places. They may also become involved in drug and neglect their studies. Consequently, their grades fall and they often get into trouble with the school authorities for disciplinary problems. The education system also creates problems for youths. The system stresses only academic performance, so it is a torture to those who are not academically inclined.

Furthermore, there are too much sex and violence on television. Society is also to blame. It has forgotten morality and decency. It has become too materialistic. People think that any way of making money is all right. So, they cheat or become involved in corrupt practices. Who can blame the youths for following the bad examples shown by society.

To solve the social problems of our youths, all the weaknesses must be corrected. Parents must spend more time with children so that they do not become involved in undesirable activities. The education system should be revamped. Those who are not good academically can study at vocational schools where they can learn skills or trade.

In this way, the youths can earn an honest living and do not become parasites living on others. Besides this, there should be greater control over the mass media. Sex and violence should not be glorified. All objectional subjects should be avoided by the mass media. Lastly, society should be taught about decency and morality. In this way, youths will be influenced not to become involved in undesirable activities.

In my opinion, my belief is that the social ills of our youths can be corrected if the right measures are taken. How about you?

Youth problems happen every where. The yobbish behaviour of England’s younger generation is one of the biggest problem to Labour Party. In my opinion, the thugs here are more violent, and cause huge problems to the local neighbourhood.

I think Eeleen has got some good points there, well done Eeleen.

    Angel, really written by you?

It is not merely the parent’s problem.
It is the whole society got corrupted.
The society has lost its bearing, and youth take the blunt of it.

I believe parents spending lesser time with the kids caused the youths problem today, but I see some parents educated the kids in a wrong way too, or should I say they spoilt the kids?

Giving love to the kids is important, but educating them to be better people are as important too. I see the way my cousins treat their kids, and how they behave now. No respect to others, even the grandparents, self-centered, materialistic, and even cunning! They are only kids, and they know how to use tactics to gain something from others. The parents are educated, and they spend time with the kids always, yet, problems still occur.

Sad to see & hear that, but I can’t do anything to correct them.
Just hope that more and more parents will prepare themselves before they become parents, same to me. :p Hopefully I won’t spoil my kids-in-future. :p

I agree with you kaka, nowadays kids are spoilt!

and one thing I don’t understand is, why would parents teach children as young as 8 (or properly younger) “theories” that they wont understand until their elder?

why would parents tell their children how bad the world is, how bad some of the relatives are?

aren’t children suppose to have the purest heart, clearest eyes of us all?

    but now they are polluted

another major cause is peer influences
