working man

I’ve got access to internet at home, eventually.

I am now working on a new wordpress theme, hoping to release it for download by end of July. It is a new challenge as I am creating it from scratch.

The main layout is 70% complete, and it should be finished by end of this week. Next, I will be doing the graphic design, font styling and coloring bits, finger cross.

This is how my desktop looked like, just 10 minutes before I went to bed last night, it was full of even more windows earlier.

Note: very large image, you’ve been warned

This is what keep me busy after work.

Yeah it’s been awhile. I know. I sorta abandoned my own blog until recently. I abandoned all of my blog friends. So have been catching up with them as well. Don’t get me wrong. I read your posts. I read all of my friend’s posts.. except I rarely commented. :p

Work kinda hectic. Trying to get a permanent job instead of freelance and then there’s also the freelance projects as well. Trips to meet clients. Blah… I need a vacation.

Just recently that my schedule is clearning up. Big projects already passed. January I started going to gym again. So blogging about my capoeira experience :D If you read my martial art section every tuesday or wed.. then you’ll see me either bruised up or sprawled on the floor pretty much. Trying to get my pictures up there…have to get the pics from my friends though.

So you’re working on your own wordpress theme? Cool. Well so far I like all of your themes. They’re simple and I can find my way easily. Some people are just filling their sidebars with junks. I couldn’t find what I was looking for.

I see that you’re using twitter.. Try Juhu Jaiku :D. I left Twitter already. Juhu is much better because it can also read your blog rss and updated it on the juhu site / client..letting everyone know that you’ve posted something. http://juhu.jaiku.com/

Yeah, you need a vacation indeed after all the hectic works. I am having tough time coming out with a good theme, I don’t know php at all, and I have to learn all the basic one from start, not easy, really.

SO how’s your job hunting so far? I know you are in UK, but which part are you in now? You were in Leeds right? (sorry if I got it wrong)

Anyway, I will figure out Juhu, thanks for sharing.

Will let you know when my theme is ready, what you’ve written above is definitely encouragement, it will keep me going. Thank you, I appreciate that.

I couldn’t get a job in the UK… so I went back to Singapore :( Got a job here. I was in london….up until last year….november. All of my friends who graduated at the same time with me… most of them went home. We just couldn’t get a job in the UK. Hard to get companies who want to give us the work permit.

For inspiration…try Deviantart.com…keyword search: web interface Try sketch whatever theme ideas you have. Doesn’t matter if it’s ugly or not. Simple or complicated. I have one sketchbook half full with themes. I always find myself going back to the sketch book and combining some of the themes elements for my designs.

Learn from the basic. That’s good. Don’t give up. I know it’s hard. But just keep doing what you’re doing. Oooo there’s this great tutorial site. You can start creating your own blog. I think it’s a great way to learn php :D http://codegrrl.com/!/tutorials/category/Build%20A%20Blog/

And actually I build my blog based from their codes. I’m too lazy to write from the beginning so I just use theirs. Of course I revamp tons of the codes..i just use their basic codes like posting, deleting, comments.

You can use this free webhosting with php support and mysql database..

Oh speaking of cluttered desktop..have you tried VirtueDesktop? http://virtuedesktops.info/
    Gotta love Mac.

Oh, it is sad to hear that, it would be great if you work here, so we could hang out together and I am sure I have a lot to learn from you. Most of my friends left too when they couldn’t get a job here, I am the lucky few. Well, not lucky in some ways, my social network had since narrowing down to only a few friends, where when I was in Uni, we used to go out in GANGS! haha, miss the life back in UNI!

I’ve checked out the websites you given, the VirtueDesktop is amazing! I was waiting for the Space offer in Leopard, and I wanted to get Leopard as soon as it come out in Oct, I can use the money for something else now. Oh I love MAC!

Regarding sketching, yeah, I sketch when I’m bored at work, it is easy to sketch but to create it in the way I want, sometimes it is just mission impossible, I’m not good in CSS and PHP, I am a self-taught. I try to find time to attend evening course, perhaps photoshop or dreamweaver, I really want to learn these skills in proper way..hmmm, 24 hours a day simply is not enough.

Thanks again for the sharing, I will keep working on my theme! Will let you know when it’s ready, and I would be very happy if you could comment on it.

    Nice one mate!
