It’s coming! 24 Hours of Flickr: A global Flickr community event

What happens around the world in one day? In a word – life. Here on Flickr, our members are sharing the world that they see: snapping daily moments, recording history, telling stories, capturing beauty.

To celebrate this global community, we invite you to join us in 24 Hours of Flickr, a day-long global photo project. On May 5 2007, grab your camera and whatever else you need, and chronicle your day in pictures.

Join the 24 Hours of Flickr group to get ready for the big day. After the big day, post your best photo to the group. We’d love to see the group photos on a map as well, so make sure you add your photos to the map using the Organizr.

Remember! We want the photos here to illustrate one day in the life of the Flickr community — May 5, 2007 — so, you can only submit a photo taken on May 5. (You’ll have until May 21 to add your photo.)

The event will be commemorated by a companion 24 Hours of Flickr book, which will contain a selection of photographs chosen from the group. Additionally, the group’s photos will be featured at Flickr events around the world this summer.

By adding your photo to this group, you understand that it may be selected for publication in the 24 Hours of Flickr commemorative book and/or displayed at a Flickr-sponsored event this summer.

It is so easy to buy something that you doesn’t know or doesn’t even need in these days, especially with so many similar products available on the market. So you will try to dig the particular product review on Google, but with so many website writing review, it is very time consuming to read reviews from different sources, especially you are reading for several products.

I’ve just come across TestFreak, a website that brings you reviews from all over the world about the hottest gadgets and consumer electronics. You will also find reviews from professional sources as well as fellow consumers and bloggers. The website is still in alpha version but it is worth to have a look.

Of course, what interest me is definitely their review on digital cameras. There are a lot of things to consider before you find the right camera, price, perfomance, size, handling, brand, megapixels and etc, but at TestFreaks, they will help to make the process painless and help you make the decision.

Apart from digital cameras, TestFreaks also give reviews on hot gadgets such as mp3 players, mobile phones, camcorder review and many more.

Buying new camera is a fun thing, why should let the decision making spoil the fun?

This is a sponsored post

I took more than 10GB of photos (RAW + basic JPEG, bout 4-5MB per photo) during my 3 weeks holiday in Malaysia. I haven’t got chance to look at all the photos in details, but this photo taken together with Pamela and Shung Lee is my favorite so far.

The photo was taken in Pamela’s house (in her room to be exact), the background is her plain blue wall. I was experimenting my new gadget, the Nikon SB-800 and I found out I could get a really good result with bounce off flash, not from top ceiling but from side wall.

Once I established this, I quickly grabbed my friends (poor white rats) and fired a few shoots, we all were very happy with the results. I didn’t want to be missed out on the photo shoots so after showing Wei Yik how to use my camera, this is it, my favorite photo of that night.

P/S: Pamela is beautiful, isn’t she? (Drooling….)
P/S: Click the photo for larger size and sorry bout my photoblog’s weird layout, I promise it will be fixed soon (hopefully!)

I’ve finally got the SB-800 Speedlight during my holiday in Malaysia. I spent 2 days looking for this flashgun around Klang Valley, but it was sold out almost everywhere. According to most of the camera shops, Nikon Malaysia is having difficulties coping with the demand. Must be plenty of Nikon enthusiasts out there. It was worth the effort because it is almost £100 cheaper! Another place to bag a bargain is through eBay, but be aware of doggy seller and custom tax.

After few days of playing with the flashgun, I must say it is a MUST HAVE kit in your camera bag. The different it makes, especially for indoor and portrait, is massive and the result is very impressive. I need more time to master it’s great features.

Speedlight SB-800 Major Features

-Compatible with both digital and film SLR cameras; auto flash control is set to match the camera body: i-TTL Balanced Fill-Flash control with the D2H, D-TTL Balanced Fill-flash control and Auto Aperture Flash [AA] with D1 Series and D100 digital SLR cameras, and TTL and Non-TTL Auto Flash [A] with film cameras

-As easy to use as a single on-camera speedlight

-Intelligent i-TTL system supports Advanced Wireless Lighting and versatile functions for up to 3 remote i-TTL speedlight groups controlled through the master SB-800

-Individual flash mode settings ([TTL], [AA], [A] and [M]) are available for each of the four groups (including master controller) for easy total lighting control based on the brightness of the subject and not simply on general output ratios for each group

-Four frequency channels prevent other photographers from inadvertently triggering flashes

-FV Lock (Flash Value Lock) allows photographers to change the composition or zoom for the shot while maintaining desired lighting of the subject

-Auto FP High Speed Sync Mode delivers needed fill flash in bright light

-Distance Priority Manual Mode is a great feature for manual flash [M] shooting at fixed distances, such as wedding photos and product shots

-Modeling Flash allows photographer to preview lighting effects

-Dot matrix LCD provides large, easy to read graphics, and ergonomic control design makes the buttons and switches simple to access and use

-New SD-800 Quick Recycling Battery Pack is included - adds a fifth R6(AA)-size battery for shorter recycling time between flashes

-New SJ-800 Color Filter Set is included - contains two color filters, one for tungsten lighting and one for fluorescent lighting

-New AS-19 Speedlight Stand is included - complete with tripod connector

My colleague called me on Friday night just to inform me that Bradford Camera Exchange has a really bargain second hand lens for sale. So I decided to pop into the shop the next day.

I had been looking for this camera shop for a long time, I know which street it situated but I just couldn’t find it, may be I was in the car most of the time, so this time I decided to walk the street and find the shop.

Bradford Camera Exchange has loads of second hand lens, camera bodies and camera accessories for sale. The trip to the shop was an eye opening trip, they are selling classic camera bodies dated back to 70s and 60s, and the price is not as expensive as I thought. I will go back one day to buy one of these body for collection. Though I couldn’t find the lens that my colleague told me (may be sold before me?), but I manage to bag a Polaroid back.

It is so fun to play with this toy! The result is very retro, something we couldn’t archieve with modern camera. But 10 shoots will cost me £10, it is definitely not cheap in the long run.

This is my first time to participate in major cycling event.

I didn’t have much ideas on what to shoot, just attended the event and hoping to bag some nice shoots home.

The Tour of Britain is a blue riband cycling event that returned to the British cycling calendar in 2004 after an absence of five years. Cycling is a hugely popular sport and British cyclists are among the best in the world, winning five gold medals in the 2004 Olympics and Paralympics.

The Tour of Britain has formerly been known as the Milk Race, the Kellogg’s Tour and the Pru Tour of Britain. Our aspiration was to re-launch the event along the lines of the Tour de France, which has no title sponsor but a spectrum of public and private sector support. We hope that this will add sustainability and longevity to this important event….For more information, please log on to Tour of Britain 2006 website.

I managed to get this shoot, my favorite shoot of the day.
